Free Cherries
A small boy went into the country store with his mother to do the weekly shopping. The little boy saw a large bin full of bright red cherries and stood in front of it with a hungry look in his eyes. The owner of the store saw him and said, "Go ahead and get yourself a hand full son."
Bashfull, looking at the floor the little guy said,"No thanks."
The owner began to insist, "It's ok, get a big hand full and put them in your pocket and eat them later."
The little guy, looking down said, "naw"
The owner reached into the bin and got a big hand full of the red cherries and stuffed them into the little boys pockets. The little guy ran to his mother with a big smile on his face.
His mother asked, "Why didn't you reach in and get the cherries when he asked you to?"
"His hand is bigger than mine!"
Understanding God
A human being can no more understand God than a cockroach can understand Albert Einstein. God is so much more than human that we cannot wrap our meager minds around Him. And if we could, that would mean that we are more than God.
However, God has done the miraculous in that he became man so that we can understand all that a human can understand about Him. It is in Jesus Christ that God is manifested to us, and made understandable. This is why Jesus said. If you have seen me you have seen the Father.
I make no claim for originality with these stories and illustrations. They have been my favorites for many years and I have used them in sermons at various times and places. Some have grown from my experiences and others I have heard or read and remembered. I will attempt to add one new illustration each day so check this page again soon.
