Prayer is one of the most talked about subjects but the least practiced of Biblical topics. There are literally thousands of sermons on prayer listed on the internet. In fact there are probably over 100,000. So, if the subject is so popular, why is the practice so rare among professing Christians. I believe it is rare because most of the sermons dealing with prayer deal with it from theoretical standpoint, not a practical standpoint.
When you study God's word you find the the gives many instances of prayer but little instruction on prayer. We have the model prayer, or more commonly referred to as the Lord's prayer, where Jesus actually tells us how to pray. But more importantly we have many recorded prayers in the Bible. These recorded prayers give us examples of how men and women prayed and had prayers answered. More sermons need to be written about these prayers. Examining them and holding them up to believers as examples of effective prayer.
